Joey Sudyka is from Corvallis, Oregon. During his first years playing for Corvallis United Soccer Club he joined a team that was in the 5th tier of competition. His coach, though, had expectations and aspirations for the team to become something the players couldn’t think possible. In one year, they qualified for the 3rd tier in the state, and the next year they finished in 3rd place in the top tier. Reflecting back now, Joey thinks his team’s progression shows how much can be accomplished when mentors believe in players, which in turn inspires players to believe in themselves. Joey is still close friends with the guys he grew up playing soccer with, as he built lasting friendships through that team connection.
Joey has a USSF B Coaching License, a B.S. in Exercise and Sport Science as well as a Psychology Minor from Oregon State University.
Joey says nothing is more rewarding than watching players use the sport of soccer to grow as people and leaders, with the chance to use those traits through their education and into their future careers. His favorite professional soccer team is Ajax because of their focus on the youth academy.
Joey and his wife Michelle have two dogs: Hemi, a six year-old petite golden retriever, and a recently adopted puppy, Piper, from the Humane Society. Joey enjoys playing golf and baseball and has dabbled on the piano.
